Tain Youth Dance Project

The HYAH Creative in Your Community scheme supported the establishment of the new Tain Youth Dance. Taylor, the driving force behind the group, tells us more...

Tain Youth Dance Project was created by myself (Taylor Rooney), along with four of my friends: Makala, Daria, Ryan and Mhari. I wanted to start my own dance project that suited me and my dance style. I mainly did hip-hop dancing up until now. Julia McGhee is the dance artist who is the teacher of this project.

I have been involved in quite a few of Julia’s projects and I have learnt so much from her. The style of dance I chose is contemporary. The group has choreographed a dance routine to represent the season spring. We also started to choreograph two other dance routines to represent the seasons summer and winter. The club was on every Thursday after school from 4:00pm- 6:00pm for a 10 week block.  We got in touch with a film maker Robbie Sygne who came up to Inver where we filmed a dance video on Inver beach on the 19th and 20th of May. It was fantastic! We had lots of fun. We each got a memory stick with lots of photos and the film so we could remember this fantastic experience. Here is the dance video that we created:

We also got to go on a trip to Findhorn on Sunday the 8th of May, there was two performances, the first performance was at 2:00pm and it was really good. At first I wondered if we were in the right place as it wasn’t what I expected but as the show went on I started to understand what it was all about.  The second show was at 4:00pm and it was performed and directed by Robbie Synge and it was very interesting and different to anything I had seen before, I enjoyed it so much. I would like to carry on this project after the summer and maybe make some more films and have as much fun as I have had doing this project. Thank you for taking the time to read this report, I hope you enjoyed!
